Welcome to the Ladies Section
My name is Elizabeth (Liz) Gee, I have been a member since 1991 and am honoured to be
Buxton & High Peak’s Lady Captain for 2020. This is a traditional Club of which we are
very proud. We have a very friendly Ladies section and are lucky to have a course on which
we can play all year round; it is built on limestone and drains very quickly.
At the moment there are special deals in place for beginners and new members who are
always welcome. We have golf clubs available to borrow if needed and should you want
someone to play with we will do our best to arrange it. Please come and give it a try! We are
in the process of building a six-hole academy course which will be ideal for beginners to
practice on. Our PGA Professional will give lessons to help you get the hang of it.
Tuesday is “Ladies Day”. This is when we play a variety of 9 or 18-hole trophy, board,
medal or stableford competitions throughout the year. If this is all confusing, don’t worry,
we will explain. There is an alternate day at the weekend prior to competition day for most
competitions to help working Ladies and busy mums play in more competitions. The Club
also holds mixed and any combination competitions some weekends. We play friendly
matches with other Clubs in the area including Cavendish, Chatsworth, Leek Westward,
New Mills to name a few. On 31st August we are holding an Open Waltz competition to
which we welcome away teams who get one extra shot per person. You can see how nice we
Mr Captain, David Howard, Junior Captain, Oliver Wardle and I have decided this year to
donate any monies raised to Special projects for the Golf Club. This will hopefully improve
facilities for everyone. There will also be a Captain’s charity Bunker at the front right hand
side of the 18th green which should you find your ball in it you will be asked to donate £1 to
the Thomas Theyer Foundation, a collecting box will be found on the bar. We will also be
holding some fun competitions to include golfers and non golfers during the season.
We also have a good social section and there are a variety of social and fund-raising events
throughout the year.
If you are thinking of having a go at golf, please contact me and I will be happy to help you.
I wish a good golfing year in 2020 to all our members.
Elizabeth (Liz) Gee
Lady Captain for 2020.
