Our progress so far: £ $ 0.00
Following on from my fundraising efforts as Lady President in 2006/2007, I have chosen to support The Christie Charity as Lady Captain for 2017.
In particular I am supporting the Proton Research Room Fund which is aiming to bring a 7- tonne magnet to the Christie, which will be incorporated into a brand new proton beam therapy centre.
The building for the new centre is in place but the magnet has to be put in place before the roof can be put on the building. It is aimed to finish the project by Summer 2018, so the sooner the magnet can be installed, the sooner this pioneering treatment can begin. The Christie will then become one of only two NHS centres offering this highly-targeted treatment in the UK.
Having proton beam therapy at the Christie will mean so much to children with cancer and their parents. Proton beam therapy is particularly suitable for young children whose bodies are still growing and are vulnerable to damage. It can also reduce the risk of another cancer developing later in life.
In addition the Christie will be able to maximise the number of experiments it can carry out with the proton beam, helping them save of the lives of more local cancer patients.
Thanking you in advance for your support.
