The Spirit of Christmas 10 November 2025
On a fresh but dry morning the Seniors Section assembled for a 9.30 shotgun start. Behind the scenes, vast quantities of alcohol had been acquired and organised into regulation order by Mr Ken (Secretary) Hammond, who appears skilled at negotiating proper discounts at suppliers.
The Seniors Committee also made “arrangements” with Stuart to provide appropriate seasonal fayre as part of the “Spirit” competition. Sausage rolls, mince pies and a bowl of chips were absolutely right.
After assembling at the request of Mr Jon (Marketing) White for a commemorative photo taken by Mrs Tracey (Just Back from Spain) Hannah, we all trudged off to our various starting tees.

(Note: next time we will move the trolleys before the photo is taken)
Golf was played. The weather was, as can be deduced by Mr Martin Scriven’s attire, unseasonably mild. However, the final 30 minutes or so reminded us all why we buy waterproofs as we all received a good wetting.
On returning to the Clubhouse, we all paid a visit to Mr Grant (Treasurer) Mitchell, who thanked us with a smile as we parted with dosh for the entry and subs for next year.
Much discussion ensued on the table where the cards were checked by Mr Elvyn (Scrutineer-in-Chief) Birch. Apparently, it was all very close, with countbacks being required to put some of the results in order.
The bell was rung on request with great enthusiasm by Mr Dennis Wright so that Mr Alex (Captain) Marsden could have the floor to make the Announcements. With much courtesy and grace the cards were reviewed and presentations made, with the final winning score achieved by Mr Ken (Secretary) Hammond and his partner Mr Russ Howe.
A great day was had by all.

One question remains… What was being said here? Suggestions are welcome…
