As Captain of the Men's section of Buxton & High Peak Golf Club, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to this part of the website. I have been a member of this Golf Club since I was 12 years old and consider it a huge honour and privilege to have been elected as Captain of this historic Golf Club. I am grateful for the many friendships I have and the camaraderie of our members. This is, I have found, a very friendly and hospitable Golf Club.
My loyalty to the Club is reflected in the exceptional challenges presented by the golf course. It continues to evolve under the stewardship of Steve Norton and his team and will be seeing significant developments over the coming months. As such, my aim for 2020 is to work alongside our Lady & Junior Captains, making golf accessible and available to all who want to "have a go". Our new six-hole par 3 training course opens in the Spring, heralding a new era for the Club. We will therefore be a teaching & playing Club, ably supported by Nick Berry, our advanced PGA professional.
I will be promoting our Club to other local Golf Clubs with whom we have had great relationships over the years. I particularly remember playing in the Derbyshire Boys Championship in 1976 and drawing with Nigel Rowland, now the Captain of Chapel en le Frith Golf Club; may be time for a rematch?
Buxton & High Peak Golf Club offers not only a great course but fantastic hospitality in the Clubhouse. The catering has a justifiable reputation for excellence and hosts a wide range of social events through the year. I look forward to seeing you there, maybe having a bite to eat and a drink after a game? Just come over and say hello!
In closing, I would like to say that this Golf Club offers something for everyone, is a great place for families and extends a very warm welcome to visitors. As such I am greatly honoured to be the Men's Captain this year and, along with the Lady Captain & Junior Captain, wish you all the best for 2020.
